Where does every statistic on this site come from?

Three studies, listed below with their samples and what they did not measure. Under them is a corrections column: the four figures this site used to cite, when they ran, and why they were taken down. A firm that sells measurement should be able to show its own.

Which statistics does this site currently cite?

Three, all from 2025 or 2026, all with a published sample. Each covers a fixed set of categories that may not include yours, and that caveat appears wherever the figure does. Each row gives the figure as we state it, the source, the sample, the scope limit, and where on this site it appears. If a study is later corrected or withdrawn, the row moves to the corrections column below.

~78%

of independent local-service firms studied had effectively zero AI citation share

Source
5W Public Relations, The Local Services AI Visibility Crisis 2026, April 2026.
Sample
320+ consumer-intent prompts across the ten largest US metros (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, Austin) and six categories, run through ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews in Q1 2026.
Scope limit
Categories tested: plumbing, electrical contracting, personal injury law, family medicine and primary care, dentistry, and HVAC contracting. Remodeling and interior design were not among them. 5W labels the figure an estimate, and 5W is a PR firm publishing its own research, not a peer-reviewed source.

organic click-through on queries with AI Overviews, June 2024 to September 2025

Seer Interactive, AIO Impact on Google CTR: September 2025 Update, 4 November 2025.
Sample
3,119 informational and educational search terms across 42 Seer client organizations, June 2024 to September 2025.
Scope limit
Informational queries only; Seer states results may differ for commercial, transactional, and local queries. Client mix is the agency's own, not a market sample.

72% vs 42%

of AI-cited pages had been updated within the past year, versus 42% first published within it

Source
Seer Interactive, Study: Content Recency’s Impact on AI Visibility in 2026, 24 July 2026.
Sample
4,124 pages cited in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity answers, March to June 2026, where both a publish date and an update date were readable.
Scope limit
The cited pages came from answers about four brands (a pet retailer, a vacation-rental marketplace, an energy provider, and a bank); no local-service vertical was included. Pages without readable dates were excluded, which biases toward well-structured sites. Association, not cause: updated pages may be cited for other reasons.

Which statistics did we remove, and why?

Four, all removed in August 2026 after a primary-source check on every figure this site carried. Each was in wide circulation in the GEO vendor market and each appeared in an earlier draft of this site. They were removed rather than reworded, because a figure that cannot be traced to a published sample cannot be caveated into accuracy. The column stays up permanently; entries are added, never deleted.

Claim as it ran Where Why removed Date
"25% of search traffic will shift to AI by 2028" (attributed to Gartner) Home hero, draft 1 The figure and the year as we ran them did not match the primary Gartner release. Removed rather than corrected, because the corrected claim is a forecast, not a measurement. 24 Aug 2026
"Content updated within 60 days is ~1.9× more likely to be cited" Home stat strip; Field Notes template Could not be traced to a primary study with a published sample and method. Replaced by the Seer 2026 updated-versus-new figure, which has one. 24 Aug 2026
"AI-referred visitors convert at ~14.2% versus ~2.8% from search" Home stat strip, draft 1 Traced only to vendor-reported figures with no published sample, and the two rates came from different populations. Nothing on this site now makes a conversion claim. 24 Aug 2026
"~61% drop in click-through under AI Overviews" Home stat strip, draft 1 A derived percentage that circulated without the underlying numbers or period. Replaced by the Seer 2025 figures it appears to derive from, stated as the two raw rates with their dates. 24 Aug 2026

What does a statistic need before it appears here?

Four things, and the absence of any one of them keeps the figure off the site. This is the same standard applied to client reports, where a number without its sample and its limits is a number the client cannot defend to a partner or a board.

  • A primary source: the organization that collected the data, not a vendor summarizing it.
  • A published sample: how many, of what, over what period.
  • A stated scope limit, carried inline wherever the figure is used, not only on this page.
  • A date no older than 24 months, or a note explaining why an older figure is still the best available.

Want your own numbers held to this standard?

The Baseline Audit reports your market with the same rules: a sample, a scope limit, a date, and a noise floor on every figure. $750, yours to keep.
